Mona's Bakery: Selling Kahk and Cookies by Weight Without a Calculator

Partager l'article

Mona opens Al Ferdaws Bakery in Maadi at six in the morning, getting fresh kahk, cookies, and cakes ready before customers start coming in. The problem: half of these products sell by weight — a kilo of kahk, half a kilo of cookies, a quarter kilo of baklava — not by a fixed piece price like most sweet shops.

The problem that ate up her day

Before TtaKkaa, Mona weighed each item on a regular scale, wrote the weight on paper, calculated the price with a calculator (price per kilo × weight), then wrote the receipt by hand. During Ramadan and Eid, when the rush picked up, mistakes crept in — a wrong multiplication, or an unnoticed undercharge — and that showed up in her profits at the end of the month.

On top of that, she never knew exactly how much flour, sugar, and ghee she had left, so she'd discover she was out of a key ingredient right in the middle of preparing orders.

How TtaKkaa's cashier changed Mona's day

The first thing Mona did with the TtaKkaa team: she registered every item sold by weight (kahk, cookies, baklava, kunafa) and set each one as priced per kilogram. After that, every sale worked like this:

  1. Pick the item on the cashier screen.
  2. Enter the weight manually from the cashier screen (direct scale connection is coming in the next update).
  3. The screen calculates the total price automatically: price per kilo × the entered weight.
  4. Print a clear receipt showing the item name, the weight in grams, and the final price.

No manual arithmetic, no discrepancies in the numbers, and the customer sees exactly what they're paying and for how many grams.

The same item, sold more than one way

Mona needed to sell the same kahk loose by the kilo during Eid season, and also ready-packed in a half-kilo box at a fixed price for customers who wanted a ready gift. With TtaKkaa she could register the item with more than one sell unit (a weight-based unit and a packaged unit at a fixed price) without duplicating the item in the catalog — each unit has its own price and its own way of being calculated.

Inventory she can see, not guess

TtaKkaa also lets Mona set a low-stock threshold for flour, sugar, and ghee, so she sees an alert on the store screen before an ingredient runs out — not after, while she's in the middle of preparing a Ramadan or Eid order. Managing ingredients became far easier and without last-minute surprises.

Barcode labels for the ready-packed boxes

For packaged products (like the half-kilo cookie box), Mona can print barcode labels straight from the cashier screen so sales move faster during busy days, instead of searching for the item by name every time.

The numbers, honestly

Instead of Mona sitting every night for half an hour adding up the day's accounts in a notebook and double-checking the math, she now sees the day's sales ready on screen in seconds. And instead of being surprised she ran out of flour or sugar mid-shift, she sees the remaining quantity in real time and orders from her supplier early.

If your shop sells by weight like a bakery

If you run a bakery or a sweet shop that sells by weight, check out the scale bundle TtaKkaa recommends so it works directly with the cashier, no manual math and no paper. And if you want to make sure stock never goes negative, read how TtaKkaa prevents selling an item that's already out of stock.

Questions fréquentes

Do I need a scale connected to the cashier to sell by weight?

No, not yet. TtaKkaa has you enter the weight manually, and the system calculates the price from the per-kilogram or per-gram price set on the item — that's what works today. Direct scale connection (no typing) is coming in the next cashier update.

What if I want to sell the same kahk both loose by the kilogram and in a ready-made half-kilo box?

You can register the same item with more than one sell unit: a base weight unit and a packaged unit with its own fixed price — without duplicating the item in the catalog.

Can I know exactly how much flour and sugar I have left?

Yes. TtaKkaa's inventory screen shows each item's balance in real time, and you can set a low-stock threshold so you get alerted before an ingredient runs out, especially before a season like Ramadan or Eid.
